ALVA NOTO PERFORMS bausatz noto ∞

On the occasion of the presentation of bausatz noto at the NOTON pop-up at STORE 77, Alva Noto will give a special live performance using the work itself as an instrument.

bausatz noto is built around four Technics SL-1210 turntables integrated into a table, each equipped with a specially produced vinyl record containing twelve endless grooves. Originally conceived as an open, interactive sound system, the work allows different loops to be layered and superimposed, their speed and rotation altered, producing continuously changing combinations.

For the performance, Alva Noto takes over this system himself. What usually functions as an instrument for the visitor becomes the basis of a live composition: the fixed material contained in the records is selected, combined, shifted and reorganized in real time. The performance thus extends the central principle of bausatz noto, moving between predetermined structure and continuous variation, and between artwork, instrument and composition.

Join us on November 5th at 8 PM for Alva Noto performing bausatz noto ∞ at STORE 77.
