UKA Presentation
We were happy to welcome UKA's IZU series into our space – offering a glimpse into one of Japan's most heartfelt beauty companies. Inspired by 羽化 (UKA) – the moment a pupa becomes a butterfly – this brand wove an intimate, deeply personal story into everything they created.
Kiho Watanabe's journey began in her father's barbershop, but her spirit was heavily influenced by the energy of Tokyo's nightlife in the 90s. After losing her sister too soon, she and her partner, Hiroyuki Watanabe, channeled their grief and joy into building UKA. Here, beauty wasn't about appearance; it was found in life's simple moments, the smiles shared with friends, and true confidence that came from within.
UKA grew organically, rooted in authenticity and a deep respect for nature. Their salons and spas across Japan reflected this philosophy, offering spaces where beauty and care existed in harmony with the environment. While we may not have had their salons here in Berlin, we were grateful to share their new IZU series with you – a line of regenerative beauty that kept us dreaming of a manicure with Kiho Watanabe, or a night out in 90s Tokyo, where the spirit of UKA first took flight.
